Michael Carey

writer – director – underwater photographer

Michael is a self taught photographer and videographer whose work has been seen in State of the World Sea Turtles and Wet Pixel Quarterly magazines.

As a former Scuba instructor he naturally became interested in filming underwater. During one dive he encountered his first sea turtle which sparked a lifelong passion for the species. His mission is to educate people about the endangerment of all seven species of sea turtles.  Hopefully this information will lead to combined efforts to insure their survival.

Michael has photographed and videotaped sea turtles all over the world and worked with many conservation organization in these various countries.

This documentary is his first.

 

 

 

 

T. Todd Jones – PhD

scientific advisor

Dr. T. Todd Jones received his doctorate from the University of British Columbia in Zoology and Conservation Physiology. He also holds degrees in Biological Sciences and Physiological Ecology.  Dr. Jones' main area of interest and expertise is on the sea turtle on which he continues to research and write about. His publications include the Journal of Experimental Biology, Endangered Species  Research and many others. He now works at NOAA Kewalo Research Facility in Honolulu, HI.

He has won the following awards:

 

2008    Popular Science Magazine's Brilliant 10 Award. This award is given to 10 young scientists conducting leading research in their prospective fields. The award has been given annually since 2001.

2007 Archie Carr Award for Student Paper. 27th Annual Symposium on Sea Turtle Biology and Conservation.

2002 Dean Fisher Memorial Scholarship in Zoology. University of British Columbia.

2002 Archie Carr Award for Best Student Poster. 22nd Annual Symposium on Sea Turtle Biology and Conservation.

 

 

 

Harry Moreau

editor – animator – topside camera

Harry Moreau has a thirty-year career in the film industry as a special effects supervisor and animator with over fifty movies to his credit including Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

He has personally created many animated commercials for television and movie trailers for film.

In 2002 he started his own photography/graphic arts/printing business in Bellingham WA which is where he and Michael Carey met. 

Harry did the animation for this documentary as well as all the editing. He also filmed the above water shots.
